So, why do I obsess about the Insanity work out DVD so much? Why do I insist that there is no other exercise program like this one?
The great thing I have loved so far with this exercise is there is no equipment to buy. No equipment at all! I just need to throw on my work out clothes and shoes and walk to the TV.
I don't need to buy any dumbbells or a giant bench to do bench presses!
I can simply get my water bottle by my side, get in front of the TV, and Insanity can begin.
But, I didn't know if this was a good incentive at first. I never found that jogging as a cardio exercise lost any fat for me. So, I did have some uneasy doubts about doing nothing but cardio in one room to achieve any results.
Regardless, I gave it a shot and put in the Plyometric Cardio Circuit DVD and tried the work out. Plyometrics are also known as "jump training". It is a whole lot of jumping.
I could not keep up with the DVD for the first ten minutes. I was in shock that this was just a "warm-up". I was afraid of what to expect for the rest of the work out.
I did not feel any differently about the intensity of the work out for the next several weeks. It was common to find me on my knees and begging for water.
That is, until the warm-up was finally over. Then, we were able to stop and take a break. A stretch, it was called. They were pretty much yoga poses to help stretch. Along with deep breathing.
Whenever I took my own breaks, I always felt as though I couldn't keep up with the guys and girls in the work out DVD. But, neither could they! Throughout the hour, there are at least 2 people needing to stop and take a break. And, visibly seeing that made me feel very humble. These were normal people just like me who needed to give their muscles and lungs a break. Because the cardio drills were that hard, and we were that crazy to push ourselves that hard.
At the end of each cardio exercise, I would take a rewarding hot shower. And before (and after) each shower, I would see the same thing in the mirror. A deep shade all over my face and neck.
Never before, with any other cardio work out, did I see that shade of color on myself. Never with the other work out DVDs, and never with any cardio machine at the gym. There's a good reason the work out program was called Insanity.
Every time I have showed up to the work out, and popped in the next DVD, I have been challenged from beginning until end. I have broken the biggest sweat I ever have, and turned the deepest red I ever have turned. It has taken me to the depths of my fitness.
Beth Prager is in awe with her work out DVD collection. Please see what other work out programs she's tried.
