Considering buying a horse? Horses are such a joy and privilege to own, but at the same time they are a rather expensive investment. While they are worth the cost of upkeep, you should go into this purchase knowing what to expect. They are, in a sense our children, in need of constant care.
You should look into the cost of horse medical insurance before your final decision is made. They can (and will at some point) get sick or injured. They will need medical care and this will cost you more than you can imagine. The expense of having yourself and family insured for most people is made available through your employer. However getting your equine insured will be strictly out of your bank account. Even though this may already have you thinking "no way, I know I can't afford this", remember you have insurance on your children and you need insurance for your horse also.
If you own or have owned small pets before, such as a dog or cat, there has been a time when he or she needed to visit the veterinarian. I have personally found that I can never take my dog to his doctor without walking out of the office possessing $100 less, at the very least, than when I went in. It doesn't matter how minute the problem seems, the cost is always high.
Just think about the size difference of a horse compared to a little pet. Some horses can be a little harder to handle when it comes to having to treat injuries or anything to do with needles. They are not all angels when it comes to this sort of thing. Maybe that is why we are charged so much.
I know the last time I checked, which was about a year ago, my local veterinarian's charge for a house call was $150. That was just the cost for him to drive his F250 eight miles down the road. Needless to say, we loaded the horse and went to him! However, there may come a time when that may not be an option for you. If a horse is injured or too sick, it may be best for him if the doctor comes to him.
The point to this is that you can get an equine medical policy to cover these outrageous fees that come along with owning this huge animal. It can easily pay for itself with just one sickness or injury.
It can also save your equine's life. There are times when owners have no choice but to put their equine down humanely, simply because they can't afford the cost of a surgery that is needed. That is an unnecessary stress for you to put on yourself. Many equine owners wish that they hadn't overlooked this option, after it is too late to change the outcome.
If you want to take that worry off your mind, you can get Horse Insurance Quotes for free online. You will be pleasantly surprised at how affordable it can be.
The great news is that it is free to find out the cost and you are not hassled or obligated to buy anything. You can't beat that. Visit http://www.HorseInsuranceQuotes.org to learn more about ways to protect your equine investment.
